The Caterpillar Deployable Universal Combat Earthmover [DEUCE] is a high-speed, high mobility, earth-moving system capable of conducting the following activities: clearing, leveling, and excavation operations in support of mobility, counter mobility, survivability, and sustained light engineering missions. Ex. military reserve stock.
DEUCE provides the U.S. Military with an unprecedented combination of self-deploy and earthmoving capabilities for light infantry and Airborne engineers to prepare airstrips, roads and protective positions, all while keeping pace with the ground forces.
The Deployable Universal Combat Earthmover (DEUCE) is the successor to the D-5 bulldozer. DEUCE is lighter, faster and more maneuverable than the D5 and, unlike the D5, its controls are like the cars and trucks soldiers already know how to operate, with its steering wheel, accelerator pedal and brakes as well as an automatic transmission. DEUCE is equipped with an enclosed, climate controlled cab (both heat and air conditioning) that allows optimal performance from a less-fatigued operator.
This combat earthmover is fitted with a hydraulically operated dozer blade at the front. The DEUCE is as powerful as the D5 dozer and able to perform many of the same jobs. There is also a hydraulic 22,000lb winch which is rear mounted
It is powered by a 7.2-liter Caterpillar 3126 turbocharged diesel engine. It has dual power settings and develops 185hp in earthmoving mode and 265hp in travelling mode. Vehicle has an automatic transmission.
A wide range of standard proven and commercially available components are used on this earthmover. The DEUCE can self-deploy and travel long distances without the need of a trailer. It can perform earthmoving tasks and then self-deploy to the next mission site. The machine uses rubber track, which is lighter and less damaging to road surfaces than traditional steel track. The dozer carries fuel for 320 km of road travel or 10 hours of earthmoving. This earthmover can be airlifted by the C-130 Hercules with a short preparation in 10 minutes, the DEUCE can also be airdropped.
